Welcome to Farming Systems Kenya

Farming Systems Kenya (FSK) is an indigenous Non-Governmental Organization formed in 1981. Our main agenda is to reduce poverty through agricultural and community development, the main focus being the smallholder farmers who constitute 80% of the Kenyan farming community. This is achieved through improving their productivity to enhance incomes and food security through appropriate technologies. FSK targets the rural smallholder farming communities who lack the knowledge, skills and opportunities to improve production. FSK works with rural self-help groups and provides technical advice, extension and affordable credit for crop and livestock enterprises. They are however integrated with large-scale farmers through major field days, visits and demonstrations.

In its 30 years of agricultural development work, FSK has undertaken both national and international assignments in its endeavor to serve especially the smallholder farmers and the farming community at large.  Over years of experience FSK has evolved and changed it’s farming systems approach to respond to the changing demands of its clients and national interests.  FSK has worked with Heifer project International (HPI), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Africa Development Foundation  (ADF), Lutheran World Relief (LWR), Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Integrated Food Processing Systems (IFPS), Department for International Development (DFID), Action Aid Kenya (AAK), Children’s Hunger Relief Fund (CHRF), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), French Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)- Finland, Church World Service (CWS) and Australian Aid (AUSIAID) and other development partners in Crops, livestock, water, environment and natural resource management, ecotourism, micro-credit and research projects with proven success.
